Spring Cleaning, Organizer Style
/With everything blooming outside, it’s time for your home to have the same treatment. We’re all used to spring cleaning, but this time, let’s add in organization to the mix! Are you ready for a place for everything to go? For the things that are cluttered in your home to be gone, organized, and stored? Ready to implement organizing tools and systems that work so that your home can feel refreshed and revitalized this season? Let’s break it down and dive into strategies for organization so that you can have a home that welcomes in the spring season!
Keep and Store
Let’s start by decluttering, with the first step being making a list. Write out the rooms/areas that need to be decluttered and list them by their priority level. (Pro tip: focus on high traffic and entryway areas first, giving you a sense of accomplishment and helping your daily life feel more organized immediately!) Once you’ve made your list, pick the first item and a time to start on it. Take out time from your calendar and add it to your schedule like you would a meeting or a kid’s ballgame. During the time you spend decluttering, work on one room and area at a time. Like the corner of a room or closet and work your way around. Make piles for storage, throw away, and giveaway, and figure out which items go in which pile. You can use boxes or bins to put the items in for the meantime.
Spring Cleaning + Planning
Start with a corner of a room or closet and work your way around. Make piles for storage, throw away, giveaway and figure out which items go in which pile. You can use boxes or bins to put the items in for the meantime.
Once you have the room/area decluttered and you know what you’re keeping, it’s time to do a deep clean. Feels so good!
Once you’ve cleaned the room to your liking, think about how the room can be set up to be the most accessible and stress free. For example, if you have to reach up high for a daily item and struggle to easily get to it, it will probably cause frustration in your normal day. Plan different ways the room can be set up so you can easily access what you need before setting it back up!
An Organized Spring
Now that you’ve thought of how you want the room to be set up, add some organizational spice to it!
Utilize vertical storage, such as hooks for the closet doors/pantries or wall-mounted shelves. Also, nets can be a great way to store kids’ toys like stuffed animals, to get them out of floor space.
Implement an organized catch-all zone for the entryway of your home. Use a bowl to catch small items like keys and sunglasses. Add a shoerack for easy access on and off. And you can also add vertical storage here, like hooks, for bags, coats, and backpacks.
Keep surfaces clear, like the kitchen table, kitchen counters, and coffee tables. This will keep your home feeling refreshed. Take 5 minutes a day to make sure they are cleared off to prevent clutter from building up.
For storing items, clear bins are a great solution, and labels can make it that much easier to unpack when you need them again. Put like items away together, such as seasonal decorations or clothes, all in one bin, for example. Store them somewhere out of the way out out of high-traffic areas, whether that’s in the garage or at the top of a closet.
This will create a home environment that helps you feel calm and organized!
Following these strategies can help get your home decluttered and bring in an organized spring. Store the things you don’t need, clean and plan the setup, and then put everything back in a way that is functional and accessible. Spring cleaning is great, and when you add organization to it, it can help you clear out the clutter in the room, in your mind and create systems that keep your home organized long-term.
